Cullinan Diamond Mine

PLEASE NOTE: THIS FACILITY IS NO LONGER IN OPERATION. THEREFORE, WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING ANY FURTHER BOOKINGS.

The Cullinan Diamond Mine (previously known as the Premier Diamond Mine) was established way back in 1905, and it appears that some people are under the impression that it is past its former glory. Not so! The Mine is alive and well, and still producing some of the most notable diamonds in the world. On 24 September 2009, a 507 carat white diamond of exceptional colour and clarity was recovered at this world-famous diamond mine, making it the 19th largest exceptional diamond to be recovered worldwide. The diamond, named the 'Cullinan Heritage', was sold earlier this year to a Honk Kong jewellery firm for R270 Million. The diamond was recovered along with 3 other exceptional diamonds, one a 168 carat diamond, and two diamonds of 58 and 53 carats respectively, which also fetched handsome prices on the international market. These spectacular findings follow the take over of the Mine from De Beers by Petra Diamonds, capital investment and development in excess of R100 Million over the past 18 months, and the recovery of a fancy vivid blue diamond in 2008. The blue diamond was named the 'Star of Josephine' by its buyer.
